One in three women around the world has faced violence. More often than not, this violence comes from an intimate partner or a member of their families- making the home one of the least safe places for women. In Afghanistan, 87% of women have said they've faced verbal, physical or sexual violence at home. These statistics are staggering and behind them are real women struggling with violence and intimidation and the trauma they bring. This is especially tragic in a country where there is a systematic effort to keep women at home and prevent their economic empowerment, legal barriers to women seeking justice, divorce, and custody, and rampant sexism that stigmatizes women survivors of sexualized violence. A short guide written by Free Women Writers, a grassroots collective of volunteer Afghan women students and writers, hopes to help women in Afghanistan through providing practical tips for seeking legal aid, forming networks of support, and protecting their mental health. The guide is unprecedented for the country. It includes discussions culturally-taboo issues such as marital rape and extra marital relationships and separates myths about the drivers of violence from the reality. More importantly, it tells women survivors of violence that they are not alone and it is not their fault. The guide has been written after four years of research, conversations with survivors of violence, and a study of the country's civil laws and the Elimination of Violence against Women Act of 2009.

Why not align herself with the glamorous and seductive Moore sisters, Cassandra and Jane? They seem to have beaten back their demons, and made a life on their own terms - a life most people can only ever envy. They are everything Shay aspires to be, and they seem to have the keys to getting exactly what they want.As Shay is pulled deeper and deeper under the spell of the Moore sisters, she finds her life getting better and better. But what price does she have to pay? What do Cassandra and Jane want from her? And what secrets do they, and Shay, have that will come to a deadly confrontation? You are not alone: Is it a promise? Or a threat?

Everything doesn't (always) happen for a reason. Infertility and pregnancy loss can be devastating, yet both are often private sorrows for the one in six people who cope with the experience. This collection offers personal stories about what it's like to go through the emotional and physical facets of infertility, miscarriage, and pregnancy loss: the pain, sadness, and desperation, the hope, humour, and frustration. Through, Not Around offers reassurance to those in the midst of their own struggles that they are not alone and that it is possible to find acceptance and strength on the other side of grief. The way forward is by going through the grief, not around it. Allison McDonald Ace, Ariel Ng Bourbonnais, and Caroline Starr are co-founders of The 16 Percent, a website dedicated to sharing stories of pregnancy loss and infertility. In the wake of the #metoo movement, times are changing. Victims and survivors of sexual assault, abuse, and harassment are no longer staying quiet, but are raising their voices to stand up, speak out, and use their truth to bring these atrocities to light in the hopes of making lasting change. This book has 56 stories from women and men who were willing to come forward and donate their experiences in order to break their silence, start healing, and help others. The stories come from contributors as young as 14 years old to as old as 72. They are stories of survival. They are stories of the depths to which some people go, uncaring of how they affect others or whom they hurt. They are stories of predators and victims. These are victims who are no longer willing to bear their experiences in silence. It is time to see the writers of these stories as more than victims, but as who they really are: Survivors. Advocates. Mothers. Daughters. Sons. Friends.
