I retreated into my own world as there was no adult to share with. I learnt to read and read avidly. Sometimes I told stories to other children. I didn't mix with ordinary children until I came out of hospital at 8. I was rather clumsy at it When I grew up I became a social worker, wife, mother and grandmother, chesty illnesses following me throughout.. I often spent holidays in a flat in an English castle. It was there that the seeds of this story grew. In my fifties, I journeyed into my imagination and began painting, using pattern and bright colour. During this time Stephen, the hero of Castle Magic, was born in my imagination. In my sixties I began writing, slowly discovering my own true voice, and began the greatest adventure of my life. Stephens talents, like mine were enhanced by his circumstances, sensitivity revealing the magic and wonder of the world around. There is magic also within and Stephen wants to encourage everyone to find it. www.annepoltera.com 50% profits from this book go to 'Demelza', a charity providing hospice care for children. James Hoover is a bright young journalist who writes for a respected science magazine. A promising career lies before him, and his wife Betty loves him very much and helps him in everything. Moreover, she accepts an oddity of James that he had shared only with her and a close trusted friend: sometimes, unexpectedly, he is tormented by a terrifying vision: sections of the walls of the building he is in start undulating and moving towards him. The vision is always accompanied by an acute feeling of terror. James can’t find any rational explanation for this strange phenomenon. Everything begins to change the moment James is sent by the magazine’s editor-in-chief to a scientific conference organized in a city in Switzerland. There he has the pleasant surprise of meeting an old university friend, without suspecting for a second that this apparently accidental meeting is part of a bizarre plan conceived by Nala and Harisha, two people who live in an isolated palace, somewhere in a remote secluded part of the world. In a different corner of the world, a doctor desperately tries to persuade his son to give up drugs, but without success. Later, when he finds out that his son has been murdered in a fire exchange between the police and some drug dealers, the doctor falls into an inexplicable coma. His desperate wife doesn’t yet understand that even this coma is part of the plan of the two people: Nala şi Harisha… James focuses on the events at the Swiss conference, not yet realizing that the presented topics will help him later to understand the terrible hallucinations with the walls that move. He will also finally and painfully understand what Nala and Harisha want from him…

Book Reassessing the Hitchcock Touch Description/Summary:
This volume is dedicated to the elusive category of the Hitchcock Touch, the qualities and techniques which had manifested in Alfred Hitchcock’s own films yet which cannot be limited to the realm of Hitchcockian cinema alone. While the first section of this collection focuses on Hitchcock’s own films and the various people who made important artistic contributions to them, the subsequent chapters draw wider circles. Case studies focusing on the branding effects associated with Hitchcockian cinema and its seductive qualities highlight the paratextual dimension of his films and the importance of his well-publicized persona, while the final section addresses both Hitchcock’s formative period, as well as other filmmakers who drew upon the Hitchcock Touch. The collection not only serves as an introduction to the field of Hitchcock scholarship for a wider audience, it also delivers in-depth assessments of the lesser-known early period of his career, in addition to providing new takes on canonical films like Vertigo (1958) and Frenzy (1972).

Book King Hu's A Touch of Zen Description/Summary:
A Touch of Zen is one of the first Chinese-language films to gain recognition in an international film festival (the Grand Prix at the 1975 Cannes Film Festival), creating the generic mould for the "crossover" success of Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon in 2000. The film has achieved a cult status over the years but little has been written about it. This first book-length study of the classic martial arts film therefore redresses its critical neglect, and explores its multi-leveled dimensions and mysteries. One of the central features of the film is the enigmatic knight-lady (xia nü) whose quest for revenge leads her to cross paths with a poor scholar whose interest in military strategy seals their alliance. Teo discusses the psychological manifestations and implications of this relationship and concludes that the film's continuing relevance lies in its portrait of sexuality and the feminist desires of the heroine. Teo also analyzes the film's form as an action piece and the director's preoccupation with Zen as a creative inspiration and as a subject in its own right. As such, he argues that the film is a highly unconventional and idiosyncratic work which attempts to transcend its own genre and reach the heights of universal transcendence. Teo grounds his study in both Western and Chinese literary sources, providing a broad and comprehensive treatise based on the film's narrative concepts and symbols.
