Book The O.D.: The Obscenely Diverse Description/Summary:

The O.D. (Obscenely Diverse) A daily read which consists of a heartfelt collection of lyrical odes, verses, thoughts, poems, and Haiku. Some may be considered inspirational all are considered entertaining. There is a dark, melancholic look at life, and there is an inspiring, positive look at life. Then there is Haiku. The pieces in this book were created through different episodes or experiences I lived through in my time here. Some are deep heartfelt and soul cleansing, others are just here to make us laugh at ourselves, which in its own right is soul cleansing as well. I hope you enjoy this book, and remember it is just poetry, so take it all with a grain of salt, nothing is literal in poetry. Thank you...

Book The O.d. Description/Summary:

A virgin landmass is 'extruded' into the Bay of Biscay by a solar-tidal magmatic pulse. Waiting to claim the emerging island are 80 people in a flotilla of trussed up barges with supplies to last a year. Who are these accidental tourists? How did they know the island would be surfacing? And what do they plan to do with it if their claim to sovereignty is accepted by the world community? Racy and thought-provoking, The O.D. paints a picture of how humanity's rush to self-destruction could be halted, given the global will to take a colossal leap... backwards. In 'The O.D.', Penzance-based American writer, Chris James, floats an alternative and controversial remedy towards tackling the ills of the planet and restoring it to a state of equilibrium. The priests have had their day... it's time to send in the plumbers

Book OD Description/Summary:

The history of an unnatural disaster—drug overdose—and the emergence of naloxone as a social and technological solution. For years, drug overdose was unmentionable in polite society. OD was understood to be something that took place in dark alleys—an ugly death awaiting social deviants—neither scientifically nor clinically interesting. But over the last several years, overdose prevention has become the unlikely object of a social movement, powered by the miracle drug naloxone. In OD, Nancy Campbell charts the emergence of naloxone as a technological fix for overdose and describes the remaking of overdose into an experience recognized as common, predictable, patterned—and, above all, preventable. Naloxone, which made resuscitation, rescue, and “reversal” after an overdose possible, became a tool for shifting law, policy, clinical medicine, and science toward harm reduction. Liberated from emergency room protocols and distributed in take-home kits to non-medical professionals, it also became a tool of empowerment. After recounting the prehistory of naloxone—the early treatment of OD as a problem of poisoning, the development of nalorphine (naloxone's predecessor), the idea of “reanimatology”—Campbell describes how naloxone emerged as a tool of harm reduction. She reports on naloxone use in far-flung locations that include post-Thatcherite Britain, rural New Mexico, and cities and towns in Massachusetts. Drawing on interviews with approximately sixty advocates, drug users, former users, friends, families, witnesses, clinicians, and scientists—whom she calls the “protagonists” of her story—Campbell tells a story of saving lives amid the complex, difficult conditions of an unfolding unnatural disaster.

Book Back to the Future Description/Summary:

Excerpt from Back to the Future: Recapturing the Od Vision I found myself very impatient with this questionnaire but until the invitation to write this paper came, I did not really stop to analyze what my feelings were all about. What I then realized is that the source of my impatience and irritation was the very format of the questionnaire because it implied things about OD that I have never accepted and that reflect, in my view, a real corruption of what was originally a grand vision.
