Book Lore Description/Summary:

From the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Darkest Minds comes a sweepingly ambitious, high-octane tale of power, destiny, love, and redemption. Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals. They are hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality. Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world, turning her back on the hunt’s promises of eternal glory after her family was murdered by a rival line. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man—now a god—responsible for their deaths. Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek her out: Castor, a childhood friend Lore believed to be dead, and Athena, one of the last of the original gods, now gravely wounded. The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and a way to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore's decision to rejoin the hunt, binding her fate to Athena's, will come at a deadly cost—and it may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees.

Category : Reference
ISBN : 9781477171769

Book Street Lore Description/Summary:

Street Lore is a book based on children games that were played in the streets of New York around the 50’s. During this period the children didn’t have the games like kids have today nor did they have the money. So, the children of this time would create their own toys from what they had lying around in the streets. An example would be the wooden boxes from the greengrocers on every corner. This would be their main source of building material. In addition to their homemade toys they had games. The game changed with the seasons and the aging process. Some were as traditional as tag, hide and seek, and marbles, while others were local and spontaneous: hot beans and butter, Highest to the moon/lowest to the earth. The neighborhood was poor and the environment was rough but the kids were to busy playing to have ever noticed. This book is based on the belief that these memories are part of a Iore that should not be lost. It is a part of American history; a small part granted, but enough to stimulate a wider perception of an era that its own way of doing things it did.

The Elephant Lore of the Hindus

Author : F. Edgerton
Publisher : Motilal Banarsidass
Release : 1985-01-01
Category : Religion
ISBN : 9789390064106

Book The Elephant Lore of the Hindus Description/Summary:

This book is intended to serve as an introduction to the elephant lore of Hindus. It consists primarily of a translation of the "Elephant-Sport" (Matanga-Lila) of Nilakantha, with notes, introduction, and glossary. The Matanga-Lila is, without doubt, the best available Sanskrit work on elephantology. It is a brief and succinct treatise in 263 stanzas, divided into twelve chapters of uneven length. Nothing is known of the Nilakantha who is mentioned as its author. According to the editor, Ganapati Sastri, the three manuscripts he used are about two hundred years old. But the work is probably very much older. For aught, we know it may go back a thousand years or even to a much earlier date. This, however, is purely conjectural; all we can say is that there is no positive trace of modernity in the work. The elephant lore of our text is based on a genuine traditional knowledge that grew up among those whose business it was to deal with elephants, and that this tradition has persisted to modern times.
