Book Book Buddies: Ivy Lost and Found Description/Summary:

A lonely doll helps a child adjust to a blended family in the first of a charming series about library toys and the children who borrow them, written by Newbery Honoree Cynthia Lord. Ivy was Anne the librarian's doll when she was a young girl. But now she has moved to Anne's library to be its newest Book Buddy--a toy that can be checked out just like a book. Ivy isn't sure she wants to be borrowed, though. She'd rather go back to just being Anne's favorite toy. Fern, a child who visits the library with her stepfamily, also wishes things could go back to the way they were, when Fern had her dad all to herself. When Fern takes Ivy home, an unexpected outdoor adventure helps both of them find confidence and belonging in their changing worlds. This heartwarming story by Cynthia Lord, with a classic feel and gentle illustrations by Stephanie Graegin, is the first in a chapter-book series that pairs friendly toys with child characters who need them.

Book Lost & Found Description/Summary:

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • NEW YORK TIMES EDITORS’ CHOICE • An enduring account of joy and sorrow from one of the great writers of our time, The New Yorker’s Kathryn Schulz, winner of the Pulitzer Prize “I will stake my reputation on you being blown away by Lost & Found. It is brilliant and profound and charming, all at once.”—Anne Lamott, author of Dusk, Night, Dawn and Bird by Bird ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS OF 2022—Oprah Daily, The Washington Post, Vogue, Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, BuzzFeed, Esquire, Chicago Review of Books, Town & Country, Electric Lit, The Millions, Lambda Literary, The Rumpus, Lit Hub, The Week, Kirkus Reviews Eighteen months before Kathryn Schulz’s beloved father died, she met the woman she would marry. In Lost & Found, she weaves the stories of those relationships into a brilliant exploration of how all our lives are shaped by loss and discovery—from the maddening disappearance of everyday objects to the sweeping devastations of war, pandemic, and natural disaster; from finding new planets to falling in love. Three very different American families form the heart of Lost & Found: the one that made Schulz’s father, a charming, brilliant, absentminded Jewish refugee; the one that made her partner, an equally brilliant farmer’s daughter and devout Christian; and the one she herself makes through marriage. But Schulz is also attentive to other, more universal kinds of conjunction: how private happiness can coexist with global catastrophe, how we get irritated with those we adore, how love and loss are themselves unavoidably inseparable. The resulting book is part memoir, part guidebook to living in a world that is simultaneously full of wonder and joy and wretchedness and suffering—a world that always demands both our gratitude and our grief. A staff writer at The New Yorker and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Kathryn Schulz writes with curiosity, tenderness, erudition, and wit about our finite yet infinitely complicated lives. Crafted with the emotional clarity of C. S. Lewis and the intellectual force of Susan Sontag, Lost & Found is an uncommon book about common experiences.

Book I Found Atlantis Description/Summary:

The book "I Found Atlantis" has solved the Mystery of Atlantis. The research shows that Atlantis, The Garden of Eden, and Noah's Ark all occurred at the same time, place, and were the same people. In 4,243 BC an Egyptian astronomer discovered that the star "Sirius" rose at sunrise. This caused the earth to shift on its axis causing the North Pole to tilt toward the sun. The glaciers melted and the water level rose in the Atlantic Ocean. It reached its zenith 3,700 BC and submerged Atlantis. Great Brittain was once known as Atlantis. Book The Humility of Being Found Description/Summary:

The need to be rescued is somewhat about personal incompleteness and mostly about God, who desires to have loving communion with creation. Spiritual rescue follows a simple pattern: Messiah is lovingly sent to rescue; each has a tendency to fight against the Rescuer; personal humility is a statement of faithful surrender and the key to being found; the greatest journey of rescue is Jesus Messiah’s upper room to empty tomb victory over sin and death; now rescued, the individual’s only responsibility is to bear the Christ Who bears our wounds. Such is the journey to rescue. In The Humility of Being Found: A Journey To Rescue, Kevin B. Cain writes, “Please acknowledge deep within every soul there is division from and longing for communion with the One larger than ourselves and with brothers and sisters in the struggle of life. Every division requires rescue, and the eternal estrangement of people from the God Who loves them necessitates the greatest of rescues. And, so, whether we realize or not, each of us sets out on a journey to discover rescue. Thousands of years ago, Messiah did the same. God descended into a journey, not to be rescued, but to offer rescue. The apostle, Paul, says Messiah’s journey to rescue each of us can be summed up in three words: death, burial, and resurrection. Whether the individual’s journey to be rescued is active or passive, Jesus’ journey of death, burial, and resurrection has brought rescue to all. You are now being invited to enter thirty-six hours from my personal journal. In the pages that follow, you will read my chronicling of Jesus’ Upper Room to empty-tomb journey of rescue and my attempt, through vigil, to journey alongside creation’s Rescuer. In the written testimony of my journey to be rescued and my stumbling over the Messianic leaf of God’s rescue that follows, perhaps you too will stumble, welcome rescue, and rise.”

Book Lewis Creek Lost and Found Description/Summary:

Well known for his imaginative treatment of environmental issues, Kevin Dann presents a natural history of the Lewis Creek watershed in Vermont's Champlain Valley, told largely through the lives and thought of three individuals, whose investigations brought them into close contact with the area. Congregationalist minister John Perry (1825 - 1872) conducted paleontological research on the region's Paleozoic rock and attempted to negotiate his era's confrontation between science and religion. Rowland Robinson (1833 - 1900) was a Quaker farmer and author/artist whose historical fiction often dealt with issues of human impact on this watershed. The first plant-hunting expeditions of another Quaker farmer and noted plant collector, Cyrus Pringle (1838 - 1911), took place in this watershed as well. Dann's account of these three men, whose lives span nearly a century, graphically illustrates contemporary human-nature relationships at the same time that it suggests the limits of science in circumscribing our experience of the physical landscape. The experience of pain and loss is documented along with the stories of success and celebration, since, as Dann writes, "Genuine places, like human hearts, have dark recesses within them, and by examining these recesses within the Lewis Creek watershed, we take a small step toward demythologizing Vermont."
