The basketball skills competition will consist of two events: a 3-point shooting contest and a free throw shooting contest.
Both events will award trophies and prizes in the following age groups:
Up to 8 years old
9-11 years old
12-14 years old
Adults
Seniors (65+)
Boys and girls will compete separately.
Registration will be open on the day of the event between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The competition will begin promptly at 11:30 a.m., as soon as the first person registers. There is a $5.00 registration fee for each event. If a contestant wants to reenter a competition in order to try again, they must pay an additional $5.00 fee for each subsequent round they choose to enter.
Rules for the Free Throw Shooting Contest: Each contestant will shoot 6 balls from the foul line. Each basket counts as one point. The top scorer wins. In the case of a tie, there will be an additional round where each of the top scorers will shoot 3 balls. This will continue until we have a winner. There is a 10 second time limit to shoot each ball, starting when the referee hands each ball to the contestant. Both feet must be behind the foul line before a shot is released in order for it to be considered a valid shot.
Rules for the 3-Point Shooting Contest: Each contestant will shoot 2 balls from 5 different locations outside of the 3-point arc and has 30 seconds to complete the cycle in order for their score to be official. Both feet must be behind the 3-point arc when the shot is released.
Referees will be at each event and the ruling of the referee on the court is final.
